Description
Summary:It is a known fact that business has always played a vital part in the life of men throughout time. Islām encourages business activities and the Messenger Muhammad s.a.w. himself was involved in business for a considerable period of his life. Hence, we can find guidelines in the Sunnah, which must be adopted by those involved in the field of business. In a profit driven domain, business enterprises would literally do anything to achieve higher gains at the expense of the interest of others. Islām has established rules and ethics which govern any business transaction. The Sunnah being a major source of guidance for Muslims has established ethics related to business. It is observed that Muslims tend to focus on the jurisprudential dimension of business transactions (fiqh al-muāmalāt) while paying less emphasis on the ethical dimension which is equally important. Besides jurisprudence (fiqh) related to the legal dimension of business, the Messenger Muhammad s.a.w. also promoted certain ethics and warned against unethical behaviour in the course of business transactions. This study will look into those ethics related to business established by the Messenger Muhammad s.a.w. along with the various methodologies adopted in conveying them.
