Summary:This dissertation is a descriptive and analysis study on the Arabic Language curriculum in the Arabic Language & Islamic Civilization Faculty of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, Brunei Darussalam. The objectives of this study is to investigate and review the curriculum used in the university, and to find out the students' weakness in learning Arabic language in order to offer necessary suggestions and recommendations to improve the curriculum. The researcher has made personal interviews with the rector of the university, dean of student affairs, some lecturers and students. The number of lecturers interviewed is nineteen and the students seventy-two. The researcher came to a number of conclusions, among them are: the present curriculum in the university researched is found to be in needs of reviewing of which to ensure it is suitable with the objectives of teaching Arabic language at the faculty and national philosophy (Malay Islamic Monarchy). In order to cater the students' learning abilities, the current objectives for teaching Arabic languages need changes and improvements to suit the students' abilities in regards of the interference caused by the Malay language; the curriculum reflects a need for capable Arabic language teachers who knows how to vary and upgrades their knowledge and teaching technology methodologies in regards to the changing environment of learning. In the light of this study's outcomes, the researcher provides a number of possible recommendations and suggestions to solve the problems. Among the most important are: to revise and reformulate the target objective of teaching Arabic language in ensuring a clear and successful pathway for teachers and students to acquire the language, to encourage and help teachers prepare their teaching methodologies in a more modernised and efficient way, e.g. giving enrichment programmes, teaching development workshops and seminars that strive to reach these objectives which are embedded in the curriculum.
