Description
Summary:This study focuses on the adverbial features of Arabic language in two chapters of fadhail (virtues) and jihad (strive for Allah's sake) from the book of riyadhi salihin. This is because the Prophet's sayings are full of syntactic and linguistic properties. An adverb is a type of semi-sentence and the meaning of time and place would not be conveyed without the use of particle fi (in). The study aims at analyzing the secret meanings of adverbial sentences and scrutinizing their features from structural and semantic aspects using descriptive, inductive, and analytical methods. It introduces mainly old and modern linguists' views on adverbs and their effects on structure and semantics in order to discover elements of similarities and differences between the adverbial sentences found in the selected Prophet's sayings and what deemed agreeable to the linguists. Furthermore, it presents a deep and extensive overview on adverbs for the purpose of knowing their very various aspects and structures. The book of Imam Nawawi Shafei's riyadhi salihin is a focus of analyzing these adverbs to illustrate various styles how they have been used in the structure and explain their relationships and meanings in it. The study concludes that in comparison to the adverbs of time, the adverbs of place are rarely being used in Arabic structures. This is due to the fact that the adverbs of time either implicit or explicit were consumed by almost all type of verbs both transitive and intransitive. The verbs themselves are referring to time and this is not the case for the adverbs of place. Additionally, they are not being referred to except by the implicit adverbs. Thus, the book of riyadhi salihin is a great reference which has deeply influenced many scholars and linguists. Finally, the current study possesses a significant contribution due to the fact that the Prophet's sayings are a secondary source for Arabic language after the Holy Quran. In addition, it is at a higher position of rhetoric and fluency.
