Description
Summary:This research aims to show the influence of different readings of Qur'ān (al-Qirā'āt) on Qur'ānic exegesis especially in surat al-Baqarah according to Imām al-Tabarī's explanation in terms of Arabic language, syntax, morphology, and Sharī'ah law. This research focuses on Imām al-Tabarī's application and utilization of al-Qirā'āt in his exegesis of surat al-Baqarah in terms of providing examples and explanation which affect the meaning and exegesis of the verses by using Arabic syntax, morphology, and other literature measures in his approach. Furthermore, this research also highlights the influence of al-Qirā'āt on Sharī'ah laws such as Islamic conviction law and jurisprudence law. In writing this research, the researcher has applied both inductive and analytical methods to derive the best outcome from the study. From this extensive research, the researcher has found that Imām al-Tabarī with his deep and broad knowledge plus sharp and analytical mind, was able to apply and utilize al-Qirā'āt to its full extent to benefit in his exegesis of Qur'ānic verses, Arabic syntax, morphology, rhetoric, and Islamic jurisprudence, and he even made al-Qirā'āt as measures to choose between views and opinions, even if it means rejecting some of recurrent and correct readings of Qur'ān. It is obvious to the researcher that his methodology in presenting readings of Qur'ān is similar to his methodology in Qur'ānic exegesis, which depends on thorough and detailed narrations, as well as suitability with Qur'ānic writings, consensus views of Qur'ān readers, and expression strength in Arabic literature. Hence, he sometimes did not differentiate between the correct and the anomalous readings.
