Summary:This study discusses jurisprudential and academic issues on deriving Islamic rulings from Quranic stories. For that matter, numerous quranic verses pertaining to the past prophets and the ancient nations are critically analyzed. Similarly, the first part of the study examines the significance of the stories mentioned in the Holy Quran, its benefits as well as the relationship between existing Islamic legal rulings and those stories. Also, evaluated are the significance attached to these stories by the faqhi, how they derive academic benefits from the stories , and the various methods they employ in drawing Islamic legal ruling from them. Such an evolution would give one confidence that armed with the knowledge and abilities bestowed on by Allah, one may deduce Islamic ruling or rulings from every single verse of the Quran. Equally important, examined are the rules strictly observed by the Islamic scholars in deriving Islamic rulings from a verse. These rules are to be fully adhered to by anyone attempting to draw Islamic rulings from the stories found in Quran. In the same manner, issues arising from Islamic ruling of the ancient nations are also thoroughly examined. Specifically discussed is the issue of whether or not we are bound to follow those past rulings. In this regard, the views of the usËlÊ scholars and the fËqahas are investigated and the views of the researchers are stated. The influence of the legal ruling of the ancient nations on deducing Islamic legal rulings, its related examples, and the rules and principles which must be taken into account when deducing legal rulings from the legal rulings of the ancient nations are also discussed. Additionally, recommended are ways to address and implement findings on above-mentioned issues. Towards the end of this study, some of the examples of the Islamic legal rulings, which are derived from the legal rulings of the ancient nations by the contemporary scholars, are presented for further clarification. The purpose is to identify the link between some of the contemporary issues in fiqh and those stories found in the Qur’an .)
