Description
Summary:The study examines the programme and activities of Muslim converts, beginning from the moment someone embraces Islam. This study focuses on the programme and activities in the State of Selangor from 2005 to 2007, as different states have different ways of handling Muslim converts and their involvement in every programme and activity. The study looks into the different aspects of Islamic education especially 'fardu 'afn' in every programme and activity for Muslim converts for 5 years before the term "New Muslim" has expired for the converts according to the fatwa of the Mufti of Selangor. There are many studies that focus on Muslim converts but only a few which really focus on the involvement with the programmes and activities of the converts. This study also to identify the actual problems faced by the converts and to find a good solution to their problems. 'Fardu 'Afn 'which is applied in the writing of this thesis refers to the Islamic education which is taught to Muslim converts and is the basis of Islamic studies prepared by the Selangor Islamic Council (MAIS). Here, it does not refer to the hukum of fiqh but the syllabus of study for converts although it consists mostly of the individual religious obligation of the converts. The researcher concentrates on the programmes and activities organised by the Unit Dakwah Saudara Kita, Human Development Division of MAIS for Muslim converts. There are also other programmes organised by NGOs such as PERKIM, ABIM, MACMA and other organisations in Selangor which are not mentioned in this thesis. Research has been conducted based on the information obtained from the books, magazines and brochures gathered from the library, Religious Department and other places. Apart from this, random interviews have also been carried out with 100 Muslim converts, officers from the Selangor Islamic Department or Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) and the Selangor Islamic Council or Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) together with other officers, in the process of writing the thesis. The study includes the Muslim converts' programmes and their activities organised by the Unit Dakwah Saudara Kita, Human Development Division (MAIS). The thesis also attempts to find out ways of solving the problems of the converts.
