Description
Summary:This research examines use of women in Qur'anic verses and the controversy by Jamal Al-Banna through his interpretation of the Qur'an. This research is based on the fact that the Modernity school has its own opinions which are different from the consensus (Ijma') interpretations of scholars and their understanding of women in the Qur'an. The Modernity school also has a different method in interpreting the Qur'an that leads to clear deviation in the interpretation of verses related to women, building strange religious rules (ahkam), and establishing values and thoughts different from the standard Islamic values for Muslim women. Since Jamal Al-Banna was one of the influential modern figures in Islamic thought and the media, it is necessary to have an academic study to distinguish truth from falsehood in his interpretation of these verses. The researcher depends on two methods. First, the inductive method where the opinions of the modern school about the Qur'an are collected, in addition to the statements and opinions of Al-Banna. Second, the critique and analytical method where the researcher focuses on analyzing, examining, discussing, and deriving the results from these collected information. The study can be described as being made of two parts. The first introduces the Modernity school, its view of the Qur'an, its eviticisum and method to deal with the Qur'an. The second part is about Jamal Al-Banna his life, his personality, his method in dealing with the Qur'an, and his method in interpreting the Qur'anic verses on woman, explaining the religious rules and moral values resulting from his interpretation of these verses. The research concludes with a number of recommendations and results. The significance of the finding was to demonstrate the clear deviation and obvious mistakes in the methodology of the Modernity school, and in the methodology of Al-Banna in his interpretation of the Qur'an. The researcher then presents a corrective critic to the view of the modern school on women, and discloses the results built on this view in regard to in italics rules on women, and their duty in life.
