Description
Summary:This research seeks to analyse the obstacles that have prevented the success of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. It focuses on the Israeli national security and it discusses the factors that impact the Israeli national security and their influence on the negotiations with the Palestinians. However, many attempts have failed throughout the last few decades to reach any satisfactory solution between the two parties. This research investigates the very important issues that are known as final status issues throughout the stages of the negotiating process. Israel constantly puts forward the security issue in front of any possible agreement with the Palestinians so that it focuses on the Israeli security interests. The study utilized and analysed official documents and agreements in addition to secondary sources to collect the data and information. This study used content analysis approach. The research is developed based on two theories; the Neorealism theory where the research mainly focuses on the propositions of Waltz's 1979 neorealism, as well as the classic realism which concerns the power of the state and the struggle for its survival in the international field. The study found that the failure of the negotiations was caused by the continuation of the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories and to its obstinacy towards the final status issues. It was also found that Israel is suffering from the lack of strategic depth and from the poor form of the state and its location between the Arab countries and the Palestinians who struggle to get back their rights and end the Israeli occupation. The results show that Israel considers that any concession on these issues will absolutely impact the Israeli national security and the survival of the state. Israel is facing difficulties and challenges in making decisions that might impact its national security. It has far refused the implementation of the international resolutions that favour of the Palestinians.
