總結:Five English speaking Thais and ten English speaking Malays were individually recorded while reading a text containing emphatically-assertive tag questions. Evidence was sought to investigate the intonation patterns of Malay speakers and Thai speakers of English to distinguish the patterns in terms of contour, height and duration. The tag questions were low-pass filtered and extracted for the analysis. The study further investigates the differences between the two groups. It was concluded that the concept of intonation was well-known to the subjects but the attempt to correctly use the proper intonation had not been made fully. The study recommends that emphasis should be given on the teaching of the meaning of English intonation to non-native speakers instead of the over focus on grammatical structures.
