The research also aims at finding the causes behind the differences in translation of some elliptical verses and to differentiate between the types of ellipted parts that need to be recovered, or not, or either way, and the various approaches adopted by translators in translating types of ellipsis in the Holy Qur'an. To achieve these objectives, the research adopted two methods: descriptive method to discuss the views of scholars in relation to the theoretical aspect of the concept of ellipsis, the concept of recoverability, the concept of translation theories and approaches based on religious texts and analytical method to study the applied aspect of the research by analyzing selected elliptical verses of the Holy Qur'an in four selected English translations namely The Meaning of the Glorious Koran by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall, The Holy Quran: English Translation and Commentary by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Koran Interpreted by Arthur John Arberry, and The Message of the Qur'an by Muhammad Asad. The research outcomes indicate that lack of recovery of ellipted parts in some verses could lead to omission of meaning, twist of meaning, ambiguity and misunderstanding of context whereas the recovered ellipted parts in some verses could lead to clarity of meaning, highlighting the deep meanings and compatibility with the rules of structures in the target language. Also, the research findings indicate six reasons for the differences in the translation of elliptical verses in the Holy Qur'an, eight types of ellipsis that need to recover the ellipted parts, five types of ellipsis that do not require mentioning of the ellipted parts and four types of ellipsis that could go either way. In addition, the research found a variety of translation approaches adopted by translators in translating elliptical verses in the Holy Qur'an; they are literal translation, transposition, modulation, explanation, and direct translation. | ||
