Description
Summary:This research focuses on studying youth crime in Brunei in light of Islamic law. The aim of this research is to clarify the stage of youths in terms of their personality and identity, and to illustrate their role in building the Muslim Ummah. It also intends to highlight the types of crimes committed by Bruneian youths as well as to identify the causes and factors for committing such crimes. It also focuses on the negative effects of committing such crimes and to expound the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence on these crimes in terms of their concepts, provisions and penalties. In addition, it also strives to highlight the efforts of the Government to overcome these crimes and to elucidate the Islamic solution to prevent youths from committing these crimes. The researcher uses inductive and analytical methods in this study through the distribution of questionnaires to 83 young people who have undergone recovering process in rehabilitation centers. Moreover, she has conducted some interviews with a number of high ranking officers in several government offices. According to the analysis of the study, the researcher has found that the types of crime committed by youths - aged between 25 years old and less – are continuously changing every year, as well as the continuous rise in the number of crimes among young people in Brunei particularly in crimes of theft, drugs and adultery. Though the government seeks to bring the problems to an end, there are numerous obstructions to finding solutions to address these problems leading to the continued increase of crime each year. Based on the findings, the researcher has confirmed the importance of the contribution of everyone in guiding the young people and to exert all their efforts to control the occurrence of crimes among them by applying Islamic law in all affairs.
