Description
Summary:The main objective of this study is to investigate boredom amongst teachers. Based on this study also, the factors or elements contributing to boredom can be discovered. Furthermore, this study investigates the consequences of teachers' boredom. Teachers are educators and it is imperative that they are always motivated and never bored with their work which is educating young minds. This study involves two secondary schools in Selangor which are Sekolah Menengah Taman Melawati and Sekolah Menengah Wangsa Melawati. These teachers were given a set of questionnaire for them to answer and to discover their proneness towards boredom. A total of 140 teachers out of 150 completed the questionnaire. Data from this study also provides information on why teachers can get bored of their profession and some of these teachers have indirectly revealed the effects of boredom towards their everyday lives including wanting to skip school every time they think of school, experiencing headaches and even body aches as well as easily getting cranky with their family members. The overall findings revealed that teachers do get bored with their profession but not all the time and majority stated that they are happy with their work. Factors that contribute to boredom amongst teachers include age, teaching experience, marital status, too much paperwork and having to attend meetings and courses away from their families. However, this study has limitations which include a small sample size and involving only two schools in Selangor. It can be concluded that most of these teachers enjoy their work and find it boring only at certain times.
