It analyzed the relationships between the parenting methods used by the parents and the behavioral problems among the children. It also aimed to discover any significant differences in the parenting methods used by the parents, and whether those method differ depending on the sex of the child. A mixture of quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed. Data for the quantitative analysis were the collected using self-constructed parenting methods questionnaire and a list of children's behavioral problem. The questionnaire was distributed to a sample composed of 778 participants (mothers and fathers) who had children aged 6 years old in the district of Souk Aljomaa. The data for the qualitative analysis were collected using open personal interviews with 6 parents (mothers and fathers) accompanied by their children. The study findings were explained using Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, Robert Sears' theory of socialization, and Islamic teachings derived from the Holy Quran and the sayings and practice (Sunnah) of Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him. The result of the study showed that the parenting methods used by the parents such as (psychological pain, neglecting, hesitation, authoritarianism) have a major impact on the behavioral problems among children (such as aggression, shyness, and poor cleaning). These findings are in line with the theories of Robert Sears and Erikson in socialization. The study also found that the parenting applied by the parents differ according to the sex of the child and the sex of the parent as well. Moreover, the results showed the importance of following Islamic parenting practices to avoid behavioral problems among the children. The educational implications of these findings were discussed.
