Description
Summary:Sayyid Qutb is considered one of the prominent personalities who had a big influence on Islamic movements at the beginning of the 1950s through his numerous books. Most of his works are in the field of Islamic civilization and Islamic thought. He is the author of the well-known Tafsir "fi Zilal al-Qur'an" (In the Shades of the Qur'an). This book is the most important and the noblest of all his books because he has founded a new and reliable school in the field of Tafsir namely "al-Tafsir al-Haraki" (Dynamic Interpretation of the Qur'an). The objective of this study is to introduce this Tafsir to readers, to understand the methodology used therein and to expose the characteristics of education related to the Islamic creed, worship and ethics, followed by drawing out the educational features by applying historical method and critical analysis. Some of the selected themes from Tafsir "fi Zilal al-Qur'an" and his later works have been touch upon in this regard. According to Sayyid Qutb creed has no boundaries and it can be extended and stretched to cover all aspects of life, more importantly a lifestyle can be derived from it, which includes code of conduct and ethics, the state of affairs and Islamic laws. Through this study, it has been observed that Sayyid Qutb has dedicated a large portion of his Tafsir to the Islamic creed, compared to other Islamic issues such as worship and conduct; this is strong evidence that we should refer to the law of Allah in order to construct our way of life which includes the Islamic laws and rites. This study has concluded that the true gateway to understanding the Holy Qur'an is to live it; this will generate positive actions and inspirations in order to apply and implement it in all aspects of life. Furthermore, it is concluded that the religion of Islam is a bond that cannot be split. Allah is unique in His creed and rites, therefore He is the only one responsible for the law and governance in all aspects of life.
