520 |u This study analyzes the methods of teaching stories used in the Arabic language curriculum at the Institute of Dar Al Salaam, Gontor, Indonesia by using descriptive and analytical approaches. The study aims to identify how the stories are taught, their importance for the learning of the Arabic language, the appropriate methods of teaching stories to the students as well as their practice of the Arabic language. This research also attempts to determine the ability of learners in acquiring the skills to read the stories in the Arabic textbooks. The data were collected through library search and field study. The researcher also distributed questionnaires to 44 teachers and 212 students. The findings indicate the following results: The teachers did not use particular methods in teaching stories in Arabic, instead they used different methods to ensure that the students understood and practiced the language. It also shows that there were some difficulties in understanding some of the new vocabularies in the story, the methods used to teach them, the difficulty to remember the exact details of the story when students were presented with new vocabulary, as well as their weakness in syntax and morphology. The study provides recommendations and suggestions to choose the best methods of teaching stories in the Arabic language in order to help students to better practice and acquire the Arabic language, as well as urge them to exercise moral and ethics in their life.
