520 |a This study analyses and compares the rules of nominal sentence (AlJumlah Al-Ismiah) between Arabic and Urdu languages. It examines the similarities and differences between subject and predicate in both languages and identifies the difficulties faced by Urdu speakers in the formation of subject and predicate in using Arabic language. This contrastive study shows that the Urdu language is different from Arabic language, first, in terms of not using the symbols case-ending inflection (Al-I'rab) and in the definite article (Adat-Atta'rif); second, in the use of the same gender for male and female and in the use of auxiliary verbs (Af 'al-Musa 'idah) between the subject and predicate, and, third, in terms of mentioning the possessive case (A/-mudaf-i/ayh) and genitive case (Majror) before (Mudaf) and (Jar). A sentence which contains the word "cL?' is considered a verbal sentence (Jum/ah-fi '/iyah) in Urdu language although the sentence begins with a noun. Thus "445' d ..l:j "(Zaid has eaten) is a verbal sentence even though it begins with a noun, Zaid. It is hoped that this study will help overcome the difficulties the Urdu speakers face during the learning of Arabic language as a second language. It should also help in the preparation of teaching materials and setting suitable examination questions in Arabic language and linguistics for non-Arabic speakers.
