Description
Summary:Several translation methods have been used to translate Arabic grammatical terminologies into the Malay language. Generally, these terminologies are used in Arabic grammar books as well as in the translated Malay versions. In addition, most of the Arabic grammatical terminologies have been translated using borrowed language, one method of translating terminologies. The frequent use of borrowed words may confuse the readers if the borrowed words contain more than one meaning for a particular language. Therefore, this study will focus on how Arabic grammatical terminologies are translated into the Malay language by advancing examples of the terminologies used in one of the translated books of Arabic grammar. The examples have been classified according to the categories of borrowed language and other translating methods identified in the book. This study also provides an alternative method of translating Arabic grammatical terminologies based on the designed classification. However, examples of translated terminologies which are appropriate, easy to understand and do not give rise to confusion are welcome as one method of translating terminologies. It is hoped that this study may facilitate translators in translating Arabic into Malay translation, particularly in the field of Arabic language. This, in turn, may help Malay students who are learning the Arabic language to better understand the Arabic grammar through the use of appropriate methods of translation.
