Description
Summary:The degree of safety and health awareness in the workplace has been increasing from time to time due to self-awareness on the importance of having a healthy life. The purpose of this research is to examine the safety and health awareness among IIUM Gombak Campus library staffs within the scopes of library workplace, fire plans and emergency exits, ergonomic issues and existing OSH policies. This research used selfadministered questionnaires. A total of 86 respondents completed the questionnaires, which gave a response rate of 61.4%. A descriptive statistical analysis has been adopted by using the IBM Statistical package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 19. Mostly, both frequency and cross tabulation statistical techniques being used in analysing the collected data. Based on the results, it showed that majority of the respondents were much aware of the safety and health risks existed in their surroundings. They also acknowledged the availability of OSH policies and guidelines implemented by the library without any failure to follow it. However, minority of them indicated the other way around. Considering these findings, promotion of safety and health awareness programmes and adoption of common safety and health measures at the library are among the recommendations proposed.
