It attempts also to establish possible relationships between demographic variables, such as gender, nationality, academic rank, membership of University bodies, Senate membership, and their pattern of responses. The questionnaire developed by Klaplancha (1983) was adapted for use in this study. A stratified random sampling method was used to select 104 lecturers from the faculties of IRKHS, Laws, Economics and Engineering. The data were analyzed using frequency, and means comparison to trace out possible relationships between variables The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was also used to analyze the structured questionnaire, while the openended questionnaires were analyzed by way of content analysis. Findings reveals that all lecturers expressed a strong desire to participate in all areas of decision-making at the IIUM. The selected demographic variables did not affect this desire. It was only in academic matters where lecturers expressed a moderate level of participation; in all other areas, their participation was ranked low, except for those academic leaders holding administrative posts and positions in the Senate. Generally, lecturers' satisfaction was strongly related to the frequency of their participation in decision-making. | ||
