This lack of standardization causes several problems that hinder the development of Hadīth literature and affect the understanding of the English reader. This research investigates the two different approaches used in dealing with Hadīth terminology in the English language, namely translation and transliteration. It analyzes the merits and demerits of each approach and evaluates the most appropriate method in dealing with the terms and concepts of Hadīth in the English language. It concludes with suggested resolutions to the problems arising from a lack of standardized Hadīth terms in the English language that aim to further enhance Hadīth literature and studies beyond the Arabic language by developing a proper understanding of Mustalah al-Hadīth as it was presented in the works of early Hadīth scholars, such as Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalānī (d. 852H).
