The five dimensions are instructional management, supervision instruction, curriculum management, staff development and personal concern. These five dimensions encompass the principal's activities directed at the students achivement, teachers development and instructional improvement as a school priority, thus producing students who are able to contribute to the betterment of the society and nation. This study help principals to choose the more important role, namely the instructional role and allocate more time to it. A sample of 240 teachers and six principals from six secondary schools was selected by using cluster random sampling from 21 secondary schools in the District of Kuantan, Pahang. The secondary schools were clustered into high achieving and low achieving schools. The questionnaire use was adapted from "Principal's Instructional Leadership Questionnaire" (PILQ) by Markandu (1985). For the purpose of this study, two sets of instruments were utilized. They are PILQ, a self-perception by principal and PILQ, as perceived by teachers. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data collected. The frequency and percentage were employed to described the properties fof five dimensions of instructional leadership. The study concludes that secondary school principals in the District of Kuantan, Pahang perceive themselves as instructional leaders in four out of five dimensions. They are instructional supervision, curriculum management, staff development and personal concern. Meanwile, teachers perceive their principals frequency performing their duties as instructional leaders only in two dimensions, in instructional supervision and curriulum management. A comparison was made of teachers' responses between high and low achieving school regarding their principals' instructional leadership. It is found that teachers from both types of schools have the same perception regarding the principal's instructional leardership in four dimensions. They are curriculum management, staff development, instructional management and personal concern. While in instructional supervision their opinions differ. | ||
