Summary: | This study deals with narrative structure and rhetorical devices and the relationship between these two elements in the stories found in Surat al-Kahf, namely the story of the sleeping men in a cave, the story of a man with two orchards, the story of Moses with a pious sage and the story of Dhu al-Qarnayn. The study sheds light on various aspects of these stories and the rhetorical devices employed in them, using the analytical method. Through this method, the elements of the narrative structure of each story are elaborated upon and the rhetorical elements present in the phrasing aspect of the story are examined, to make out the subtleties of expression in a manner which will explain their role in supporting the narrative structure. In doing so, the researcher has taken into consideration both the linguistic and situational contexts to show the congruence between the narrative elements and the reasons why they appear as such in the Qur'an, leaving the readers enthralled and deeply impressed. |
