Summary:In the Malaysian educational system, Islamic Education is one of the subject components offered in the primary schools. The researcher believes that knowledge in certain teaching strategies will enhance students' interest in learning Jawi and also have positive perceptions towards the importance of the subject. Therefore this study attempts to investigate the appropriate teaching strategies applied by Islamic Education teachers in teaching Jawi under j-QAF program. The researcher had conducted a case study using self-constructed questionnaires. The respondents comprised 112 males and 143 females year six students from the selected government primary schools in the district of I-lulu Selangor. The sample was selected by the researcher herself using convenience sampling method. Data was gathered through the questionnaires and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program was used for the data analysis. A descriptive analysis was conducted to provide meanings to the data. This simple descriptive statistical analysis includes percentages, frequencies and means used to answer the research questions of the study. From the findings, it was revealed that there were four frequent activities that had been identified and these were; flash cards, drill technique, playing games and learning through songs. The findings also revealed that there were several methods applied by teachers in teaching Jawi. The most prefe1Ted methods among the students were related with the effective teaching strategies and teachers' teaching styles. Besides, the findings revealed that learning Jawi give a Jot of benefits to students which can enhance their interest in learning Islamic education subject. Several suggestions have been recommended by the researcher to improve the teaching practices of Islamic education in school. Generally, this study provides useful ideas that can be used to raise the level of teaching Islamic education in Malaysia.
