520 |a This study examines the works of Muslim scholars involved in the discourse on the Islamization of sociology. It focuses on the views of Ali Shariati, Ilyas Ba-Yunus and Saiyad Fareed Ahmad, And A.R. Momin on Islamic sociology in terms of the approach and strategy. It also discusses the concept, issues and approaches of Islamization of knowledge as a background information to better understand the position of the discourse on Islamization of sociology. In so doing, this study highlights the views of Ismail Raji al-Faruqi, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and Ziauddin Sardar. This study is analytical, critical and comparative and relies on primary and secondary sources. The works of the above-mentioned scholars constitute the primary sources, while secondary sources were derived from the works of other scholars on them. An examination of the views of the participants of the discourse shows that there are differences and similarities among them on the rationale, approach and strategy to develop Islamic sociology. The writings of the scholars, in their varying emphases, show the similarity on the activist nature of Islamic sociology and synthetic approach to the Islamic legacy and contemporary Western sociology. The study also identifies such problems emanating from the assessment of their works on Islamic sociology as the ambiguity of its scope, the neglected attempt to document the works of classical Muslim scholars and the question of the viability of synthetic approach.
