Description
Summary:This research aims to indicate the understanding of Ibn Hazm concerning knowledge and its tools illustrated in his book "al-Fasl". It consists of five chapters: The first chapter discusses the methodological approaches. The second and third ones represent a methodology as which it encapsulates induction and analysis together. Additionally, Biography, lineage and attitudes of Ibn Hazm will be examined in these chapters. These chapters also, evaluate the definition of science either terminologically or idiomatically as well as significance of that from Ibn Hazm's point of view. The motif of Ibn Hazm about the validity of sources of knowledge such as Quran, tradition, history, scripture and logic will be pointed out in these two chapters as well. Chapter four elucidates the notion of Ibn Hazm with regard to the tools of knowledge such as intellect, perception and report. Finally, Chapter five while clarifies that Ibn Hazm was a Zahir, at the same time identifies that to what extent he had been engaged in this sect. All in all, as a summary of this research it would be said that Ibn Hazm does not account perception and report as independent tools of knowledge unless they are verified by intellect. The methodology of Ibn Hazm would be a specific one called al-Hazmiyah. This methodology is not precisely Zahiriyah rather it presumably passes that and moves towards reasoning and interpretation yet embeds three conditions; the necessity of absolute statement, the certain consensus and the necessity of perception.
