Description
Summary:This thesis discusses the history of Islam in China and the situation of Muslims there since more than a thousand years ago. It highlights the Chinese scholars' efforts in the propagation of Islam; their service in respect of the Holy Qur'an, including its translation using different approaches, and its interpretation in light of their extensive knowledge; the influence of their service on da'wah and on strengthening the sound faith of believers amid a country where are found different forms of idol worship like Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and heretical beliefs. Despite harsh circumstances, Muslims in China have preserved their faith as well as their scripture and have continued to transmit the two to succeeding generations. They are concerned with Islamic organizations which promote brotherhood and affinity between Muslims in China and those in other parts of the world, and deepen the Islamic world's understanding of Islam and Muslims in China. China is a nation whose historical roots of culture and civilization date back to more than 5.000 years ago. This thesis attempts to highlight the Chinese scholars' efforts in engaging this civilization in the propagation of Islam and the influence of the Holy Qur'an on the Chinese people for over a thousand years. Indeed the latter is a manifestation of the inimitability of this Sacred Scripture as well as the awe it commands in human souls. Such an attempt is meant, first, to align the blessed efforts of the Chinese scholars with those of Muslims in other parts of the world in the field of Islamic culture; second, to enrich the Islamic literature on the Holy Qur'an; third, to inform the present generation of the Chinese people of their scholars' history, the latter's credit in establishing Islamic culture in China and in the Chinese cultural heritage; fourth, to show the scientific achievements related to the Holy Qur'an and the Chinese Muslim scholars' specialization in the present age.
