520 | |a The integration of society has been acknowledged in the Qur'an, when Allah mentions that different tribes and nations were created to know and appreciate each other; not to fight and argue with one another. This concept had been given an important attention by Prophet Muhammad • during his lifetime not only through his words, but importantly through his successful practice in integrating the diverse society in Madinah. He highlighted the need for the Madinan society to focus on integration by using various terms such as unity, brotherhood, justice, equality and peace, as his guidance is in accordance with the message stated in the Qur'an; to bind humans by the rope of Allah. Madinah during the Prophet's time was declared the first Islamic society which consisted of Muslims, Arabs and Jews, showing that it was a plural society with different backgrounds, religions, customs, cultures, and lifestyles. This study aims to take Madinan society at the time of the Prophet • to be an exemplary society for others to emulate, especially among multi-cultural societies. Malaysia, with its major Muslims residents, can learn many lessons from the Madinan society. It was chosen for its acceptance of Islam as an official religion and for Muslim residents living together peacefully with non-Muslims. There are efforts on the integration of its society done by the Government which does not claim to be contradictory to the efforts of the Prophet • as practiced in Madinah. Using qualitative method in collecting data through library research and descriptive and analytical approaches, it can be revealed in the study that there are some undeniable similarities and differences between these two Islamic places; Madinah and Malaysia, even though it is impossible to make comparisons between a society governed by ordinary people and a society governed by the last Messenger of Allah •. Some problems and proposed solutions are also discussed in this study in providing insights and ideas to develop the best way to have a well-integrated society, such as Malaysia by following the methods used by Prophet Muhammad • in Madinah. | ||
