Description
Summary:The current research is entitled Phonology Description of Warsh's and Hafs's Reading of the Qur'an: A Computational Descriptive Study, where the researcher has studied the phonological description of two reading methodologies and attempted to demonstrate the similarities and the differences between them in terms of phonology. Thereafter, the researcher sought to provide a linguistic account of the differences and present the explanations of classical and contemporary scholars on the difference. The research comprises of an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion that includes any significant findings as well as recommendations. This study is considered to be an innovative linguistic perception that was founded on profiting from the different branches of phonetics which includes articulatory phonetics, phonology, acoustic phonetics, and experimental phonetics, analysing the auditory phenomena and utilizing it in a beneficial manner to the sound and logical perception of this language. The research discusses several auditory phenomena relevant to Hafs's and Warsh's reading methodologies of the Holy Qur'an by studying the contextual variables that influences the formation of the Quranic voice. The research also made use of an inclusive and diverse auditory database which managed to gather both the similar and different aspects of the two reading methodologies in the selected phenomena. The information gathered was subjected to a computational study in order to acquire laboratorial results and consequently answer the research questions. The database was one of the essential requirements of the descriptive-computational methodology adopted in this study to document the phonological phenomena of the Holy Qur'an. In addition to this, acoustic research methodologies, preparation of databases that include Quranic sounds presented as a spectrogram were put into effect so that a description of the auditory differences between the two reading methodologies is provided. Equally, this research has benefited from new programmes in studying Quranic sounds which is characterised by a high level of precision in analysis in order to understand the Quranic sounds as well as to avoid any subjective tendencies which also includes validating classical rules stated by our predecessors, modify or adding to them by discovering new rules that were overlooked due to their utter dependency on subjectivity and personal judgements.
