Summary: | Arabic is a shared language for the Arab nation and one of the working languages of the United Nations. It is the language of the Noble Qur'an; the great essential book of Islam. Subsequently, Arabic has become a religious language for Muslims all over the world. China and the Arabs relations date back to ancient times that span more than two thousand years; thus, China knew Arabic in earlier periods. Accordingly; This research deals with the methods of teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages in general, and the methods of teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages in China in particular. The research intends to analyze those curricula at different times to elucidate the development of Arabic educational curricula in China. The research adopts descriptive and analytical approach to review scientific documents, records, research findings, books, and methodical periodicals. The research finds diverse outcomes. One of the most important outcomes is that the Chinese government set the "Curriculum for Teaching the Arabic Language to Universities and Higher Institutes" in the year 2000. This curriculum contains two parts. One of them is the curriculum for teaching Arabic to the basic stage in higher institutes, while another is the curriculum for teaching Arabic to the level of specialization in higher institutes. This is a symbolic achievement in the development of higher education for Arabic language in China in the early third millenniums. The research has identified some problems in the teaching of Arabic in China and concluded with recommendations that can be instrumentalized in developing curricula for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages in China. |
