Beginning in 2010, the discussions have tremendously taken place among the academia as well as the laymen in Malaysia, particularly after the speech of Anwar Ibrahim at the London School of Economics (LSE). There are several concepts emerged but the most common are two; the diversity of religious existence and the equality of religions which Anwar Ibrahim has used interchangeably. The former concept is in line with Islam, but the latter is foreign to Islam and will lead to association to Allah i.e. Shirk as reported in the gazette by the Government of Selangor. The aim of this study is to discover the understanding of modern pluralist, Muslim scholars and Malaysian Muslim scholars on religious pluralism. In addition, the research will focus on the understanding of religious pluralism of IIUM Kuantan campus students'. The research also aims to identify the influence of religious pluralism on students' understanding of religious coexistence from the perspective of Tawhīd. The research questions are answered through a library research and focus group discussions via an interview of random respondents from each kulliyyah in IIUM Kuantan Campus. It is analyzed that there are three definitions gathered from the interview namely religious syncretism, religious equality and religious coexistence. In addition, the research is conducted to observe the students' understanding on the meaning of religious coexistence from the perspective of Tawhīd, that are commonly understood as religious harmony and religious truth. Although this research is limited in its scope, it is hoped that it will be a significant contribution to the body of knowledge of religious pluralism and probe further discussions on it. | ||
