This study, therefore, traces this Islamic influence on the local culture of the people of Mandingo by examinrs proverbs. It aimes to display the common values embedded in the Mandingo and Arabic proverbs. The study aims to explain the concept of proverb as understood by the Mandigo and the Arabs. It aimes to compare the Arabic proverbs with the Mandingo in order to show the similarities and differences that exist between them. It did so through linguistic inferences so as to find out the extent of influence that exist between the Arabic and mandingo proverbs. The study confines itself to 138 examples selected from the Arabic proverbs, mainly from Musnad Al-sheab, which highlights Islamic values. Then, they are compared with 195 examples that were chosen from (Mande Sandalou of Salomana Kante). The study used historical, analytical and comparative methods. The results show that both the Arabs and the Mandingo look at proverbs as an instrumental means of oral communication. For them, proverbs come about as a result of human experiences. Thus, proverbs play a key role in the social and religious education of the Arabs and the Mandingo. | ||
