Description
Summary:This is a retrospective study investigating the effect of the concordance of preoperative EUS finding with the surgical finding on the recurrence rate of fistula in ano post surgical intervention. In this study the clinical and demographic data of thirty two patients who underwent preoperative EUS and subsequent surgical intervention were examined. It showed that the concordance of preoperative EUS findings and the surgical findings has a role in decreasing recurrence rate. 86.7% of the concordance group had no recurrence while 13.3% of the non concordance group had no recurrence (P value = 0.01). There was no association between age and recurrence (OR, 0.949[95% CI, 0.896-1.005, P value 0.075]). Also there was no association between diabetes or smoking and recurrence (OR, 0.533[95% CI, 0.076-3.725, P value 0.526]) (OR, 2 [95% CI, 0.310-12.891, P value 0.466]) respectively. The fact that patient having previous surgery didn't influence the recurrence rate of the cohort of this study (OR, 2.250 [95% CI, 0.536-9.450, P value 0.268]). There was no association between locating the internal opening and recurrence rate in this study (OR, 0.232 [95% CI, 0.023-2.357, P value 0.217]). This concludes that the preoperative EUS is a useful tool in managing fistula in ano and decreasing recurrence rate.
