Description
Summary:This research focuses on divine love and determines its significance. It then proceeds to highlight the aspects that hinder its presence and mentions their types. The research explores a plurality of curative ways to rid of these attributes. The research also sheds light on the problems and negative effects that arise in its absence and its impact on individuals and society and it proceeded to present measures to rectify this problem. The research followed the inductive method to collect Quranic verses, authenticated Hadith, interpretations and the views of the scholars. The analytical method was also used for studying the collected information and extracting their relevance. Through the critical approach, some of the scholars' views regarding divine love were analysed. Especially dissecting their views and rejecting those that united the definitions to the soul and its spirit. The research achieved the following findings: there are shortcomings in highlighting the comprehensive educational aspect of the Quranic approach which explains the concept of divine love – stressing that it is the religion and it is the foundation of all good deeds. Faith is incomplete without divine love and reform cannot be achieved without it. The research highlights that the creed of the believer is a comprehensive and holistic one, not fragmented. No matter how many acts of worship the Muslim individual performs, possessing one of these abhorrent attributes is sufficient to be deprived from the love of Allah, since it is in contrary to the piety that Allah loves. Furthermore, the study points that the degradation of the soul is the common factor among all the abhorrent attributes that lead to committing sins. Since all those who possess these attributes have internal moral imperfections that impede them from faith and fear of Allah. However, the absence of divine love does not deprive one from Allah's favours in this world. To rectify this position, there is a necessity for a balanced educational approach that consolidates between asceticism in the spiritual approach and the exaggeration in mental abstract thinking. The research concludes with a few recommendations on divine love.
