| 總結: | This thesis is a critical analysis on magic realism as depicted in Salman Rushdie's children fiction, Haroun and the Sea of Stories (1990) and Luka and the Fire of Life (2010). Haroun and the Sea of Stories and Luka and the Fire of Life are magic realist novels but magic realism in both novels has hardly been explored. Using Anne Hegerfeldt's five prototypical magic realist techniques, as stated in Lies that Tell the Truth: Magic Realism Seen Through Contemporary Fiction from Britain (2005), as its main theoretical framework, this thesis aims to identify the five prototypical features of magic realism displayed in both Haroun and the Sea of Stories and Luka and the Fire of Life. It aims to investigate the way magic realism is used in both novels to undermine literary realism and non-literary discourses in order to express a supplemental alternative outlook on the real world. At the same time, it also examines the way this highlights the importance of narrative knowledge as a source of knowledge in understanding the real world. Hopefully, this thesis will provide a critical insight into the manner in which magic realist techniques could be used in fictional writing to undermine literary realism while highlighting the importance of stories and storytelling in understanding the real world. |
