520 |a The late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries was a crucial period for the Qazaq Khanate and the wider Muslim World, almost all of which would be colonized by European colonialists over the following years. Tsarist Russia that colonized the Qazaq Steppe performed a certain evolution in governmental confessional policy towards the Qazaqs. As a result, a new Qazaq Khanate (Bukey Khanate) emerged in the Russian territory and therein widely implemented a Volga version of Islam. This variant was seen as beneficial to fulfilling the "civilizing mission" of Russia in the Qazaq Steppe, and it became a new instrument in the political game. This thesis intends to examine the religious and administration polices of the Russian Empire in the Qazaq Steppe, in particular, the Bukey Khanate time and Jangir Khan reign in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The method of data collection used in this thesis was documentary research. The information was gathered from archived materials, books, journals, and websites pertaining to the Russian colonial history of the Qazaq steppe.
