Summary: | The aim of this research is to clarify and highlight the importance of Qur'anic style of critical thinking, using Surah (chapter) Baqarah as an example to discover their role in strengthening the Islamic doctrine of monotheism (tawḥid). The goal of studying Qur'anic style of critical thinking, and their application in the domain of defending and establishing Islamic monotheism, is to understand how exactly they function in this capacity. This study utilizes two research mythologies. The first methodology, the inductive method, is used to examine Qur'anic verses and evidences that point to the oneness of God, while at the same time analyzing the flawed logic and ideas used by polytheists to deny belief in Islamic monotheism and maintain their belief in polytheism and disbelief. The second methodology, the analytical method, analyzes some verses from Surah Baqarah on this issue. This research came to a number of conclusions, the most important being that: the intellect of a Muslim is the most essential instrument used to understand the Qur'an, and it is obligatory upon all people to use their intellect to reflect on the reason for their creation as well as the creation of the world. For those Muslims who rigidly follow tradition on issues of belief, it is obligatory on them to research and ask questions until they arrive at a true understanding of belief. They can only do this by using intellect and reason. The Qur'an calls mankind to think, and attempts to connect their thinking with past events and cosmic phenomena in order to help them arrive at the truth. This becomes clear after analyzing Qur'anic verses which exposit methods of sound critical thinking. By doing this, it is possible to develop a sound method of defending the doctrine of Islamic monotheism against people of misguidance. |
