This study also analyses the importance of the Central Asian region to China's status as a major power in the world. It uses K J Holsti's concept of foreign policy making to examine China's strategic interests in Central Asian region and analyses China's energy, market, and security strategies towards Central Asian region as well as China's strategies in handling sources of insecurity to its interests in Central Asia. The data were collected from official documents, annual reports available from government, websites of various think thanks and the resources found in IIUM library. This research used thematic analysis structure and analysed the interests and strategies of China towards Central Asian region. The findings indicated that China perceives Central Asian region as crucial alternative cheap source of supply of energy and market, compelling China to aggressively invest in infrastructure of the region. The study also found that the 'three evil forces' are the major sources of threat to China's interests in Central Asian region. China has been able to use the Shanghai Cooperation Regional Organisation (SCO) effectively for promoting its security and economic interests. Finally, China's One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative will benefit Beijing and the Central Asia States if China manages to resolve its border issues with many Central Asian States.
