520 |a Most Malaysian maritime vessels have Television Receive Only (TVRO) installed onboard. The TVRO is being used in watching television for example ASTRO. Currently, most of the antennas are fixed pointing parabolic reflector dishes just like the ones installed at domestic houses. The crew of the vessel basically can only watch TV broadcast when the vessel is in a static position, and the angle and elevation of the satellite receiver dish are positioned accordingly. However, identifying the right bearing and azimuth for the dish in the middle of the ocean can certainly take hours especially during rough sea condition. Watching TV while the vessel is in motion is impossible because satellite signals are fluctuating and the dish direction towards the satellite also keeps changing along the motion. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to assemble an intelligent positioning system as part of a satellite receiver station that capable of obtaining steady and reliable information regarding the location of a moving vessel. The station comprises effective techniques capable of computing the required azimuth and elevation angle of the satellite receiver dish. The idea is that, as the satellite signals are fluctuating from time to time, a combined Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) consists of a Global Positioning System (GPS), a Globalnaya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema a.k.a. Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) and a Beidou Navigation Satellite System (Beidou) can improve received location information by having a selection capability to ensure continuously receiving GNSS signals. In the study, a station incorporating three GNSS, namely GPS, GLONASS and Beidou had been assembled. The station, aside of the mention multiple satellite receivers is also fitted with a microprocessor and several relevant electronic sensors. The findings confirm that the station can acquire steady and constant position information which later is used in the computation of the elevation and azimuth angle. Based on the percentage error in Azimuth and Elevation angles which are less than 1% indicates that a combination of three GNSS is capable of establishing a more reliable positioning data information. It is also evident that the constructed station managed to achieve an enhanced continuous positioning information as compared to the commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) system.
