520 |a This research sought to explore the phenomenon of the leadership roles of academic administrators in facilitating the Islamization of Knowledge at Fatoni University. In achieving this purpose, the research aimed at fulfilling three objectives, namely (1) examining the IOK implementation phenomenon at FTU, (2) exploring the leadership roles of academic administrators in facilitating the IOK based on Servant Leadership Theory (SLT), and (3) proposing a potential model of IOK implementation at FTU. In order to gain information from the perspectives of academic administrators, lecturers and students, the research was designed as a full qualitative study, under phenomenological study. There were 20 informants from academic administrators, lecturers and students who were involved in the three methods of interviews, namely, individual interviews, group interviews, and focus group discussions. The interview data were transcribed, coded and generated into themes which underpinned the findings and discussion process. The findings indicate that the informants were aware of, and understood, the concept of IOK in terms of its meanings, significance, and methodologies. This phenomenon is apparent since the academic administrators have played major roles in facilitating the subordinates and students in implementing the IOK. However, several challenges emerged but they were not deterred from moving forward in the IOK implementation. Moreover, the way forward for IOK implementation at FTU was suggested in order to sustain and improve the IOK agenda at FTU. Six out of the ten major characteristics of Servant Leadership Theory (SLT) materialised in the administrative practices encompassing facilitating, visionary, creating, cooperative environment, inspiring and persuasion, awareness and empathy. However, the stewardship, conceptualization, healing and commitment to the growth of people are not apparent. The findings of the study have contributed to a model of IOK that can be used as a practical guideline and not just merely a theory for other Higher Institutions. The methodology adopted in this study has left a research trail for future researchers to use and replicate similar approach and design. The findings can spark the attention of the stakeholders in future investment and sustainable efforts.
