520 |a The migration of highly skilled people, which is referred to as brain drain, has become an important social issue in today's world. India has a very long history of high-skilled migration and it is one of the top three countries with the highest migration rate. This requires a sociological investigation into the phenomenon of brain drain to understand its trends, factors and effects on the society. The present thesis aims to examine the potential brain drain among Indian students, as students are among the main source of brain drain. The main objective of this research is to study the trends, factors and measures to intervene brain drain in India. This study employed a mixed method approach involving qualitative (in-depth interview) and quantitative (survey) data collection techniques. The study finds that there are many factors, both push and pull factors, such as education, employment, health, corruption and lifestyle which are possibly responsible for the brain drain. Certain measures suggested by the students are necessary to reduce and control brain drain which have been compiled in concluding chapter.
