Description
Summary:This study aims to gain understanding of the social entrepreneurial awareness and social entrepreneurial intention among Bottom 40 (B40) urban women of Malay, Chinese and Indian in selected Program Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT) residential areas in Klang Valley. Another primary focus of this research is to develop ethnic profiles based on the social entrepreneurial awareness and social entrepreneurial intention of the B40 urban women community. Using Solvin's formula, a sample of 90 B40 urban women was drawn. A set of questionnaires, which was self-constructed and derived from previous studies, was distributed to all samples. A total of 91 completed surveys from 10 Chinese, 40 Malays and 41 Indian were obtained and analysed using one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and linear regression analysis. The finding indicated that there was no significant difference on the level of social entrepreneurial awareness among B40 urban women across three ethnicities (i.e. Malay, Chinese and Indian) in selected PPRT residential areas in Klang Valley; thus, the first hypothesis was rejected. It was also revealed that there was no significant difference on the level of social entrepreneurial intention among them; thus, the second hypothesis was rejected. Align with the third hypothesis, it was revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between the level of social entrepreneurial awareness and social entrepreneurial intention in the context of B40 urban women in selected PPRT residential areas in Klang Valley, also indicating that social entrepreneurial awareness is a predictor of social entrepreneurial intention. The discussion on social entrepreneurial awareness and social entrepreneurial intention was made evolving around the community of B40 urban women as a whole, which enriches our understanding of this community and social entrepreneurship.
