Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to determine and examine the authenticity of ahadith pertaining to Paradise and its bounties that are mentioned in the book al-Tadhkirah by Imam al-Qurtubi. This study focuses on ahadith about Paradise that are not mentioned in the six canonical ahadith collections. This stems from an emerging need for studies that discuss the authenticity of those ahadith as they become more widely known among people. This study focuses on collecting the ahadith and examining the chains of narration for each ahadith using two main methods. The first method is the inductive approach in which traceable (marfu') ahadith in al-Tadhkirah are collected and attributed to their original sources. The second method is the critical approach in which the authenticity of these ahadith is identified after verifying the status and authority of the narrators and the texts. The results of the study prove that Imam Al-Qurtubi does not mention the status of most of these ahadith according to proper hadith methodologies. He also does not state their authenticity as a condition as he was merely interested in their exhortations. Hence, the study found that there are authentic, weak and fabricated ahadith in this book. More specifically, this study found the following categories of ahadith: three ahadith by Shari'ah li Dhatihi, three by Shari'ah li Ghairihi, fourteen by Hasan li Ghairihi, eight by Da'if, three by Da'if Jiddan, ten by Mawdu', and five ahadith were left ungraded due to the unavailability of their transmitted chains and sources.
