It uses the conceptual framework composed of national interest and analysis of foreign policy to guide this study. The research employs qualitative methods of data collection. It collects data mainly from official documents and speeches of political leaders. This study finds that Turkey has historical relations with Somalia and therefore, has serious interests in Africa. Hence, this thesis is conducted based on historical connection with Somalia. The study also finds that Ankara implemented a policy to strengthen its geostrategic position in the African countries, particularly in Somalia. Moreover, Somalia was in needs of Turkey's assistance as well. Hence, Turkey has been launching developmental projects across the country such as education, health, transport, agriculture, infrastructure and security sectors which contribute to the rebuilding process of Somalia. Moreover, Turkey helped Somalia stabilization and reconciliation process by providing necessary aid. In this context, the Government of Turkey performed a mediation role and hosted reconciliation talks between the Somali Government and Somaliland. This study recommends that it will be in the best interest of Turkey to continue assisting Somalia. In exchange, Somali state will be able to assist Turkey in pursuit of its interests. Therefore, Turkey should help to resolve Somali conflict and state building process.
