Summary: | This research aims to study the effect of linguistics overlap and negative transfer on the acquisition of Arabic vocabulary on Turkish students. This research employs the descriptive approach in studying linguistic interference in second language acquisition, and in identifying the Turkish vocabulary borrowed from Arabic language that leads to the negative transfer in terms of phonetics, morphology and semantics. Also, this research employs the analytical approach in the presence of the negative effects of Turkish vocabulary borrowed from Arabic language on learning Arabic words phonetically, morphologically and semantically for Turkish speakers. The research has found that linguistic interference between Arab dialects do exist, and that it is the result of friction between languages, and that the mother tongue language also affected the acquisition of the second language. This study points out the differences between linguistic interference and linguistic compatibility in the original language and the second language. The study also has discovered that the compatibility between the Turkish language and the Arabic language in the Turkish vocabulary borrowed from Arabic, which has changed phonetically and semantically in the passage of time until the present time for several reasons. Accordingly, this research has discovered that there are various changes in phonetics, morphology and semantic areas in case of Turkish vocabularies when borrowed from Arabic language. This research concluded the occurrence of linguistic errors are results of negative transmission related to linguistic interference in the Arabic vocabulary phonetically, morphologically and semantically, depending on the researcher's analysis of the Turkish students' answers to the research questionnaire prepared by the researcher. |
