| 520 | |a This study discusses the comparison between two poets: Ibn ‘Arabi (D. 1240 A.D.), who represents Arabic literature, and Abdul Hadi WM., who is well-known as a Sufi poet in Indonesia, through their huge works “the Tarjuman al Ashwaq” by Ibn ‘Arabi and “Tuhan, Kita Begitu Dekat” by Abdul Hadi WM. Furthermore, their works are categorised as mystical poetries considering Ibn ‘Arabi as the great Sufi in our history of classical Arabs whereas Abdul Hadi WM. shows his spiritual journeys in his poems. This research used qualitative method through comparative study on the aspects of the differences, resemblances, and influences. In addition, the writer referred to several works related to the topic. This study aims to find the concept of divine love from the view of the mystical dimension in Islam. Ibn Arabi, moreover, expressed that the divine love is on the high station (known as maqam among Sufis), that is hard to reach, which sometimes causes hardship and misery. The divine love, according to Ibn ‘Arabi, comes from God’s beauty. Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi WM says that divine love is a dependent relationship, which is difficult to get as well, yet it always brings the convenience to the soul of gnostic. this study highlights several symbols used by the two poets: women’s names, universe and natural phenomenons, and city’s names. For instance, Abdul Hadi WM. used a word “laut” which literally means sea in English. The word “laut” describes his idea about the beloved God Himself and he clearly stated in his writing that he was inspired by Ibn ‘Arabi for this symbol. Thus, Abdul Hadi WM. is highly influenced by Ibn ‘Arabi’s thoughts on Wahdatul Wujud, which is shown in his works including the symbols he mostly used in it. | ||
