This study aims to expose the difficulties experienced by students in terms of studying Arabic prosody, and then identify the solutions to overcome those difficulties, in addition revealing the extent of Malay musical melodies used in learning the poetic meters in an easier way. By using the qualitative method, semi-structured interviews were conducted for the process of collecting data and important information. Ten Malaysian students majoring in the Arabic language from International Islamic University Malaysia participated in this study and the Atlas-ti program was used to perform the data analysis. This study concludes that the problems faced by the students in learning Arabic prosody are related to two main aspects, namely the method of teaching practiced by the instructors, and the students' aversion to the subject. Among the most important solutions to overcome difficulties in learning Arabic prosody are teaching the subject using musical tunes that fit with the poetic meters, creating an interactive environment between two parties (students and instructors in the classrooms) and the usage of modern technological tools. This research found that the Malay musical rhythms could be a useful educational teaching material to help learn Arabic poetry. By using this approach, the students pay more attention in learning Arabic prosody, hence they could understand the course in a more effective way.
