Summary: | This study aimed at uncovering the role of life skills subject's teacher in developing volunteer work among seventh grade students in the Governorate of South Al-Batinah in the Sultanate of Oman. A simple random sample consisting of (363) students, which is about 51%, was chosen. To achieve the study goals, the descriptive analytical method was used by preparing a questionnaire consisting of (17) statements. The questionnaire was divided into two axes; the first axis is about the theoretical field which consists of two dimensions: (Knowledge, Importance), and the second axis is about: the practical field which consists of two dimensions; (Inside the school and outside the school). The study also included an interview tool, which included a set of questions. Their validity and reliability were verified. The study's results showed as the following: The role of life skills subject's teacher in developing volunteer work among seventh grade students in the Governorate of South Al-Batinah in the Sultanate of Oman from the students ’point of view was at a very effective level in the theoretical field, while it was at an effective level in the practical field. There were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05α) in the average responses of seventh grade students regarding the role of life skills subject's teacher in developing volunteer work among seventh grade students in the Governorate of South Al-Batinah in the Sultanate of Oman, according to the study variables; gender and age. The most prominent professional obstacles that face teachers when developing volunteer work among seventh-grade students in Al-Batinah South Governorate are: student’s reluctance to do volunteer work, weak community culture, the lack of media role in supporting volunteer work, the absence of most school activities of volunteer work, and the absence of separate official bodies concerned with volunteer work. In light of the study results, the researcher recommended activating the role of schools in providing students with the skills and culture of volunteer work, urging civil society and educational institutions to increase interest in student volunteer activities, spreading the culture of volunteer work, establishing centers and units specialized in volunteer work, allocating a weekly quota in the study plan in all educational stages, activating the aspect of communication, audio -visualizing media and social networking sites, activating the role of school administrations, setting up a system of rewards and incentives for the best social volunteer projects, and inviting the private sector and businessmen to support volunteer activities. |
