As the elderly’s functional ability declines with age, they face difficulties maintaining an independent lifestyle, including difficulties perform grocery shopping and ensure food accessibility. Hence, this study proposed online grocery shopping (OGS) as a key solution to substitute elderly’s grocery trips to achieve independent living and minimise food insecurity. The aim of this study is to examine the antecedents that affect the elderly’s intention to use OGS in Malaysia. Building on the Capability Approach and Technology Acceptance Model, this study was the first to develop an integrated model to investigate the elderly’s OGS intentions from human value and functional technological perspectives. Furthermore, this study investigates in-depth on how the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness are developed by proposing the elderlyspecific and functional ageing constructs. Data was collected from 289 non-OGS users who were aged above 60 years old and living in Klang Valley, Malaysia. PLS-SEM was used for data analysis. The results showed that elderly with lower functional ability will have higher intention to use OGS. The elderly's intention to use OGS is based on the functional technological characteristics that OGS offers and how OGS can provide the capabilities to enable them to achieve the life they desire (independent living). Besides, perceived ease of use, functional ability, life course events, and digital literacy determine the perceived usefulness, while life course events, digital literacy, technology anxiety, and facilitating conditions determine the perceived ease of use. The findings can offer online marketers, businesses, and the government a better understanding of the elderly’s OGS adoption. Consequently, the elderly's OGS intention will increase and hence develop OGS habits to gradually replace grocery trips to inform the successful preparation of functional declines and achieve independent living. 2022-08 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/12028/ http://erep.mmu.edu.my/ masters Multimedia University Faculty of Management (FOM) EREP ID:
