The alarming depletion rate of natural resources has driven the idea for better and smart management of the resources. Energy efficiency can be generally achieved by the implementation of more efficient technology or production processes, or by the use of widelyrecognized techniques to reduce energy losses. In lighting, the usage of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting to promote energy-efficient design has been widely used. Tremendous advances in LED lighting technology in recent years can be seen. Due to that, it has created enthusiasm whether LED lighting can be applied to all lighting purposes inclusive of stadium lighting. High illuminance is essential in high-performance sports applications. The visual performance of the LED lighting in stadium applications needs to be determined to produce the optimum result. Hence, a study on the characteristics of LED lighting is required. In this research, the objectives are to study the illuminance and uniformity for different LED luminaire's architectural design topology. A computational model of LED luminaire was developed using MATLAB. With the developed model, the effects of different tilt angles and different view angles of luminaires were investigated conservatively. A series of assessments were performed to determine the LED floodlight output on a football field. An optimal architectural design topology consist of a hybrid luminaires view angle was determined and compared to the latest FIFA lighting specifications as the baseline. The proposed optimized architectural design of LED lighting was able to comply with FIFA illuminance requirements. The light distribution and glare rating are also found within the required tolerance. The optimum luminaire's view angle and tilt angle were determined and found sufficient in meeting the specifications with the least quantity of luminaires. With the findings, LED lighting can also be used in sports lighting applications. Furthermore, using LED lights can reduce energy consumption while do not compromise the required lighting criteria. 2022-06 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/12033/ http://erep.mmu.edu.my/ masters Multimedia University Faculty of Engineering (FOE) EREP ID: 11734
