Summary: | The two-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform (2-D DWT) is fast becoming established for many image and video processing applications, such as the JPEG2000 still image compression standard and the MPEG-4 texture coding standard. The inherent scalability and better de-correlation properties of DWT allow DWT to outperform DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) in terms of subjective image quality for image and video compression. However, the high memory and processing requirements for 2-D DWT computation inhibit the widespread deployment of DWT for practical image and video processing systems. As a result, a dedicated DWT architecture needs to be developed which can provide real-time video processing performance in embedded system. |
